CS371p Blog Post #11: Alisha Zuté

What did you do this past week?

This past week I worked on the Darwin project for this class and luckily was able to get it running in time. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be and I ran into a large amount of bugs. I also had a modern web apps project due which took up a lot of my time. The project wasn’t too hard but getting mysql installed and working correctly was a hassle.

What’s in your way?

There’s not much in my way at the moment. I do not have much to do this week so I can finally relax a little bit. I actually came home to visit my mom since I have free time for the first time in what feels like forever.

What will you do next week?

Next week I will get started on my neural networks project, which is due next sunday. I also have my texas government test this week and an interview, but I am not too stressed about either. Apparently the government test is impossible to fail.

If you read it, what did you think of The Dependency Inversion Principle?

I have not read this paper yet.

What was your experience of continuing to implement std::vector, move semantics, and allocators again? (this question will vary, week to week)

Vectors are a lot more complex than I thought. Some of this material is kind of confusing but I think I just need to rewatch the lectures.

What made you happy this week?

I got what is pretty much my dream job offer from Citrix. It’s a lot of money and in Boston, which was the number one city I have been trying to land a job in since the start of recruiting season.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip of the week is to use an IDE. I know this is a terrible tip that everyone knows about, but honestly I do most of my coding in notepad for absolutely no reason- it’s just a bad habit I have formed, and every time I use an actual IDE it feels like I discovered gold. I really don’t know why I keep going back to notepad.
